I often hear clients say “I just didn’t have time this week to go on my own.” Let’s reframe this: they’ve had a very busy week, maybe they’re feeling tired and burnt out, or they weren’t feeling motivated. Is there anything that they are doing that they don’t need to do?
Are they prioritizing sleep and balanced meals or are they so overwhelmed with work that they then watch TV until 3 in the morning?
Don’t put your dreams on hold. Find the motivating factor for why you began this journey in the first place.
Instead of it being all or nothing, you can adjust your expectations for yourself. What’s realistic for you? Here are some simple swaps you can use to start shifting towards a more nutritionally dense and physically active lifestyle.
If you can’t afford the chicken breast, buy chicken thighs.
If you can’t train 3x a week, train 1x a week.
If you don’t feel comfortable going to the gym during busy times, go on a walk or complete a bodyweight workout at home.
If you’re not willing to give up your alcoholic beverages, cut down on the frequency.
If you don’t want to batch meal prep, you can make two portions of dinner so that you have lunch for the day.
If you work or live in a place where you typically take the elevator, take the stairs instead.
If you don’t like drinking water all day, make simple swaps for fruit-infused waters, sparkling waters, or other beverages that are more appealing for you. Just be careful to avoid those with unnecessary added sugars or filler ingredients if it is going to become an everyday habit for you!
When it comes to your daily routines and your health, ponder what your priorities are and what the things are that you’re not willing to give up. It’s okay if you have things you absolutely want to hold on to! Make sure you’re being honest with yourself on what you can adjust.
